Newspaper, being the oldest of major media, is an old subject among campaigners, but it is one about which much conventional knowledge of the medium aint so. There are many new things to be said about using newspapers effectively in modern political campaigns. Newspaper advertising played a significant role in recent gubernatorial victories by Angus King (I-ME) and Mike Foster (R-LA). Twenty-five years after the NABs launch, big changes in media ownership have radically altered New Zealands newspaper advertising landscape. Incoming NAB boss Sonya Crosby tells David McNickel how her organisation plans to move with the times. Despite this, however, Crosby says now is a good time for the NAB to examine its business model. First thing on the change agenda she says, is the inclusion of Sunday papers in the NAB mix. “Thats up for discussion right now. My belief is that we should be representing all newspapers and if were going to offer an independent solution we need to be able to offer whatever is required to get that solution to work. Sundays are currently not on the list - were looking at paid dailies only. In the past the newspaper business has been quite regionally specific and essentially non-competitive between NAB member papers. But the environment has changed from when the NAB started, so the question now is has the environment changed to the point where we should really be considering adding Sundays to the mix.” Also up for discussion says Crosby is the future of the Metpac and Regional Max packages that have proved so successful for the NAB since they were launched in 1996 and 1999 respectively. The reason for the rethink she says is a new approach to how papers are sold - as marketing, rather than regional solutions. “Were having a look at changing the way we put our packages together,” she says. “We have some good packages but theyre pretty much based on geographic spread and readership. What Im interested in doing is finding ways to talk to the target more effectively.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Many consumers have started to pay off their credit card debts more quickly and to resist taking new cards, helping reduce record-high personal bankruptcy rates, a consumer group said Tuesday. The Consumer Federation of America said 112,000 fewer people filed for and received bankruptcy court protection last year than in 1998, which it termed the largest one-year decline on record. “Consumers have increasingly just said `no to credit card solicitations,” Stephen Brobeck, executive director of Consumer Federation, said at a news conference. In addition, he said, many consumers with credit card debts have realized the importance of paying more than the minimum payment on their monthly bills and are sending heftier payments.
TIS THE SEASON of giving. For many, its also the season of credit card debt. Holiday shopping seems to come out of nowhere, catching shoppers financially unprepared for the extra expenses and turning to their credit cards. That leads to whats known as a “holiday hangover” in January, when consumers open up their credit card statements.
Overall about 17 percent of Americans are either very or moderately worried about not being able to make the minimum payments on their credit cards. Another 22 percent say they are not too worried, and 46 percent say they are not worried at all.

Although our board is made up of eight volunteers who are elected by our members, we know the value of accomplishing our vision and strategic plan can only be operationalized by being team players. If you ever see birds flying south for the winter, you may notice that they fly in tandem, with any one in the flock being capable of taking the lead in various situations. To build a team, partnerships must be developed among team members based on integrity and mutual respect, work groups must be developed that stimulate people to reach their highest potential, and pride must be taken in serving others. AMSN has determined that the objective of our team is to serve our constituents by being ever mindful of our mission, vision, and strategic plan, which is a work in progress. Vomiting in pregnancy Vomiting is a routine part of many pregnancies; historical mention of it dates back to 2000 B.C. But its epidemiology is not well documented, so researchers at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Md., studied data on 9,098 pregnancies to see what lifestyle and socioeconomic factors were associated with vomiting. While the researchers found out who was more likely to vomit, what remains to be seen is why it occurs more often in certain groups.
Nephrolithiasis in PregnancyNephrolithiasis is a rare but important condition in pregnant women. The most common presenting complaint is flank pain. Recurrent of persistent urinary tract infections may also be due to nephrolithiasis. Ultrasound is the first-line diagnostic study, but a limited intravenous pyelogram can be obtained when indicated. Spontaneous passage of the stone occurs in approximately two-thirds of patients. The true incidence of urinary calculi in pregnancy is unknown, since cases are recognized only when the stones cause symptoms. [2] A review of the literature reveals a reported incidence ranging from 0.03 to 0.53 percent. [1-7] Combining these data gives an incidence of 0.1 percent. Among pregnant patients hospitalized for abdominal pain, however, renal calculus is the most common nonobstetric diagnosis. [2,7]

After the robust growth in 2006, construction activity posted even higher growth rates in 2007. The value of construction put in place surged by 18.5% over 2006. Activity in civil engineering increased by 24.7% as a result of the construction of transport infrastructure. The construction of buildings grew by 15.5%; within that, non-residential construction was up 20.2%, whereas activity in residential construction decreased by 0.9%. Based on detailed data on issued building permits, the vigorous construction of hotels appears to have continued last year, probably along with the construction of wholesale and retail trade buildings. In interpreting the figure on the value of residential construction put in place we should bear in mind that these figures exclude the activity of smaller firms (see the note under the table), where the construction of buildings is the main activity. Stronger growth was partly linked to favourable weather conditions, especially in the first half of the year. This is corroborated by the business trends regarding the limiting factors in construction. The share of firms that reported bad weather conditions as a limiting factor was much lower in the first half of 2007 than in the previous year. The weather was also more propitious than the year before in the third quarter, but it was less favourable in the fourth quarter, which affected growth in the latter part of the year. The growth in the number of employees increased further last year. In 2007 the number of people employed in the construction sector was 11.3% higher, on average, than in 2006. The number of workers by activity rose particularly in building completion; in the latter part of the year it also increased in general construction. In terms of employee status, higher growth rates were recorded in the number of sole proprietors and their employees.
CONSTRUCTIONFor those companies that decide to expand via new construction, the experience can be an unsettling one, full of uncertainties. In fact, relatively few startup businesses choose construction as their mode of entry due to the higher costs associated with it and the greater length of time involved from the breaking ground stage to the day when the establishment opens its doors for business. Small- and mid-sized businesses, however, are far more likely to have the financial wherewithal to launch a new construction project. Such firms have a proven track recordwhich can help them with financingand already-productive operations that bring in revenue that can be used to defray the costs of construction.Owners of these businesses, however, should fully weigh the advantages and disadvantages of construction before moving forward. Lasser Institute indicated in How to Run a Small Business, Building has the advantage of giving you the space and arrangements which meet your needs, providing you know specifically and objectively what the needs are. The obvious disadvantages are the delay in occupancy while land acquisition, design work, and building are going on, and the cost of overruns and mistakes caused by forecasting errors and planning oversights.

Where Creativity and Capital Meet Using Untapped Collateral and Nontraditional Payment Terms Three significant requirements are needed for a client to utilize monetization financing: 1) an assignment of/or an absolute and unconditional promise to pay from an investment-grade obligor or an acceptable substitute financial instrument backing the transaction, 2) a predictable cash flow, and 3) a date-certain payment. Edwards got the idea at a trade show where he saw pencils that had been made from recycled currency. He contacted J.R. Moon Pencil Co. in Lewisburg, Tenn., to discuss the feasibility of his idea, and then he set up a meeting between the pencil company and Lydall composite Materials Inc., a company that would convert the mail into the pencil materials. They did a test run to verify that the materials would be compatible and to identify what percent of mail the final composite would have. The test was a success with the pencil material ending up being about 25 percent recycled mail. The pencils will be used by postal employees in the performance of their jobs and will be distributed to students to increase awareness of recycling efforts. ALCOHOLISM Approximately 85% of alcoholics and alcohol abusers receive no treatment for their condition, according to a 1983 Office of Technology Assessment report, which estimated alcohol abuse to be responsible for up to 15% of the Nations health care costs. Alcoholics use significantly greater amounts of medical services than do nonalcoholics for a wide range of physical problems that include organ damage (particularly the liver), brain dysfunction, cardiovascular disease, and mental disorders. Alcohol is involved in half of all accidental deaths, suicides, and homicides, and in 43% of all traffic fatalities. There are approximately 10.6 million American adults who can be classified as alcoholics, according to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, and an additional 7.3 million “alcohol abusers,” who have been arrested or involved in an accident, or whose health or job performance has been impaired due to out-of-control drinking. The disease has such far-reaching ramifications that each alcoholic devastates the lives of at least four other people.
The younger a child begins to drink alcohol, the greater the chances he or she will develop alcoholism later in life. A survey of over 27,000 American adults found that 41% of people who began to drink before age 15 were dependent on alcohol at some point in their adult lives. A quarter of those who began drinking at age 17, and 10% of those who started at age 21 were alcohol dependent at some time in their adult lives. Journal of Substance Abuse, 9/97, pp. 103-110.

The giddiness and glee over heroin in Please Kill Me is replaced by a sense of small-time tragedy in But Beautiful, because the book takes place where both the pleasure and the pain are, because the book can orchestrate silence as well as noise. Writing on Chet Baker - once the ingenue of jazz, then its lizard-faced junkie poster boy - Dyer, seeking that place where all art begins, can make a complete fool of himself: He could only play with such tenderness because hed never known real tenderness in his life. And Dyer can get to places few writers on music know exist - He was the opposite of his friend Art, who put everything of himself into everything he played: Chet put nothing of himself into his music and thats what lent his playing his pathos. The music he played felt abandoned by him.His friend Art - Id read that passage four times before I caught the pun, which Dyer may never have placed there. But the book is so driven by its need to get close to the art that sparked it you can find the like of that phrase all across it, hidden on any given page. Here there is no scene, only a music that begins in solipsism and refuses it. In Please Kill Me there is not even isolation, at least until the last pages. And yet all you had to do to prove that there is an irreducible music at the core of the book that denies the reality of inner lives was to catch Nikes Search and Destroy commercial during the Olympics: a montage of violent sports images running over a twenty-three-year-old Stooges song that the world outside of the one Please Kill Me describes hasnt begun to catch up with.

On Tuesday, attorneys defending Hans Reiser, who is suspected of killing his missing ex-wife, called his divorce attorney to testify about Nina Reiser. Gregory Silva, who represented Hans Reiser during bitter divorce proceedings, took the stand and read depositions Nina Reiser gave for divorce proceedings months before she disappeared on Sept. 3, 2006. Despite searches, her body has never been found. During those interviews, the mother of two admitted to having an affair with her husbands best friend.
Goldman v. Goldman, 711 N.Y.S.2d 128 (2000). The New York Court of Appeals held that a mortgage conveyed to an attorney on a spouses interest in a tenancy by the entirety during a pending divorce proceeding survived the final entry of judgment of divorce. Affirming the intermediate appellate court, the state high court noted that a tenancy by the entirety is a form of real property ownership available only to parties married at the time of the conveyance. Under this type of ownership, both spouses enjoy an equal right to possession of and profits yielded by the property, and each may sell, mortgage, or otherwise encumber his or her rights in the property, the court explained. Once the legal relationship between the spouses is judicially altered, such as by divorce, the tenancy by the entirety converts to a tenancy in common.

We are very aware of the influence of gender identity on spirituality. Many spiritual directors working with lesbian and gay directees are becoming aware of the special influence of sexual orientation on ones spiritual life. Lesbians and gay men, because of their sexual orientation and its implications for their lives, will relate differently to Christ and to God than will their heterosexual counterparts. Anthropologists note that in many primitive cultures, gays and lesbians play a strong role in spiritual leadership. For example in American Indian tradition, the berdache or the heyoehkah who gave spiritual leadership to the tribe were usually drawn from among the gay members of the tribe. Gays and lesbians also have played a leading, if hidden, role in Western monastic tradition. Matthew Kelty, the Trappist monk, speaks of a special spiritual quality in his life as a hermit and contemplative that he attributes to his homosexuality: “The reason [for this special quality], as I have worked it out, is that (homosexuals) are more closely related to the anima than is usual. Freestyle will offer loans of up to 90 per cent of value. Mortgage offers will be based on an assessment of what borrowers can afford rather than fixed multiples of annual incomes. Among other attractions, customers will be given a verbal decision on how much the bank will lend in a few minutes. There will be no arrangement fees or mortgage indemnity guarantee charges on large loans. YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, Wyo. (AP) — The parks popular west entrance is opening to snowmobiles and snowcoaches for the first time this winter, although some routes remain closed due to a lack of snow, park officials said Friday. The West Yellowstone, Mont., entrance is scheduled to open Saturday, park spokeswoman Cheryl Matthews said. Snowmobiles and snowcoaches will be allowed on roads between the west entrance and Old Faithful, Madison to Norris and Norris to Canyon. The road from Mammoth to Norris continues to have bare spots and will remain closed to snowmobiles, although snowcoaches are allowed, Matthews said.

Grant signed the measure declaring that the sensitive area, with its roaring geysers and bubbling mud, would forever be set apart “for the benefit and enjoyment of the people.” Sadly, the short shrift given to Yellowstone, that grand old patriarch of parks, is symptomatic of a neglectful policy being applied to our national treasures across the board. At a time of war and tax cuts and huge deficits, something has to give. And under a spending bill recently approved by the House, a big loser is clearly the nations parks, already woefully underfunded.

IT should come as no surprise that some National Health Service dentists are threatening to quit over government reforms in dental care. They will still rake in plenty of cash, but its not enough for some greedy dentists whose surgeries are more crowded than Ken Dodds mouth.

In July 1993, a pretested questionnaire and a letter describing the purpose of the study were mailed to all dentists employed by IHS (n=389) and FBoP (n=120). IHS dentists provide clinical services in 200 dental clinics in IHS/tribal hospitals or ambulatory health centers in 33 states. Within the FBoP, inmates receive dental treatment at 107 dental clinics. Of the 509 dentists who were mailed the questionnaire, 489 (96% [372 IHS and 117 FBoP]) responded. Of the 489, 194 (40%) dentists had practiced clinical dentistry in the IHS or FBoP for lt;3 years; 183 (37%), 3-9 years; and 112 (23%), [equal to or greater than] 10 years. The mean years of clinical practice were similar for dentists in both groups (5.9 years for IHS and 5,6 years for FBoP dentists; p=0.7, two-tailed t-test); 438 (90%) reported that they were practicing clinical dentistry at the time of the survey (87% IHS and 97% FBoP), and the remainder were in nonclinical positions. Almost all (474 [97%]) respondents reported ever having received a TST (365 [98%] IHS and 109 [93%] FBoP); 92% of those tested reported always having a negative test result (Table 1). Of 36 dentists who reported ever having a reactive TST, 17 (47%) reported the first reactive TST occurred after graduation from dental school. Of these 17 dentists, 14 (11 IHS and three FBoP) reported converting from a negative TST to a reactive TST.
